Hi Val,

Thanks again for agreeing to receive the Terry Jones Diversity and Equity Award on my behalf tomorrow. The following are a few sentiments to share with those in attendance on my behalf.

First, I'd like to express my sincere regrets for missing this afternoon's program. When my family and I planned the weekend vacation that resulted in my absence today, I had no idea that this event was being planned.

Secondly, I wish to thank the Diversity Council for an Inclusive CSUEB. The Council's work is extremely important and necessary. I hope our university and campus community recognize the tremendous contributions to this great university the Council has and will continue to make.

Above all, I'd like to express my sincerest gratitude for this great honor. I am very humbled and proud to be the first recipient of the Terry Jones Diversity and Equity Award. I am especially pleased that this award is in recognition of Dr. Jones, whom I have always respected and admired. For over 30 years Dr. Jones has been the conscience of CSUEB when it comes to equity, fairness, diversity, and multicultural awareness/understanding.

Again, thank you all for this great honor.
